AFRICA SHOX CASE STUDY

 

Jean-Michel Basquiat



Jean-Michel Basquiat was an artist born and based in New York who explored abstraction.

Basquiat's 'History of the Black People is relevant to and has links to the Afrika Shox msuic video as the piece has references to the slave trade. For example the use of the word salt references the atlantic slave trade that took place from the 15th century through to the 19th century.

This links to the music video as the black character in the video is seen as less powerful and unable to function around the white upper class people of New York in the video.

OUR SHOT LIST

 Since our group decided that our music video would not have a set 'start, middle and end' story line and would be more like a montage of clips, we decided that creating a shot list would be more beneficial than a story board.

The shot list outlines the different camera angles, locations, mise-en-scene and camera movement techniques we intend to use in each shot.

For our Media AS requirement we are asked to create a music video for an unsigned band/artist, and we would be great-full if we were able to use your ‘closed’ track to accompany. Also if this is possible to have a copy of your lyrics to be able to complete a story line. Please let me know if there are any problems with this request.

MUSIC VIDEO PLANNING: OUR LOCATIONS

OUR TRACK: JAMES EDGE- CLOSED

I feel that this track is a good option for our group as it has a slightly delicate feel to it, meaning that we can find suitable locations and shot types to use in a more effective, lighter way. This is reinforced by the fact that the music only includes the acoustic guitar and James Edge's voice with no technical or electronic sound added. This makes the track even more suitable as it gives the music a sense of naturalism and innocence, which goes hand in hand with some of the planning of shots and locations we have come up with as a group.
